Computer printer mystery?

Bought new laptop w/ win. 7. Hooked up old printer from win. 2000 unit and printed successfully. A few days later it wouldn't print...ink light flashing but cartridges are not old or empty. HP website diagnosed the problem as a print queue backlog jam ... properties say no jobs waiting though. I've unplugged everything several times, rebooted several times. Anyone know something else, or is it new printer time? Thanks
