What is the process by which a candidate for the Presidency verifies that he is a citizen?

Seriously, I can't seem to find an answer to this question anywhere. I have to produce three forms of ID to get a Driver license but if I run for office I don't have to prove anything at all? Do we really just take their word for it that they meet the Constitutionally mandated age and citizenship requirements?
