Name of a novel I read about 3 years ago?

I'm vague on the details, but the central character was a woman park ranger somewhere in Appalachia; other characters she runs into are an old curmudgeon farmer who has a "Snapper" mower, a hippiesque older woman who irritates him to no end, and a charming stranger who may or may not be the ranger's true love...thanks!
